Fresh or dried dandelion herb is also used as a mild appetite stimulant, and to improve upset stomach. The root of the dandelion plant may act as a mild laxative and has been used to improve digestion.  Preliminary research suggests that dandelion may help improve liver and gallbladder function.

Dandelion is a well-known weed, but it’s also a source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and beneficial biochemicals. It's used in supplements to manage diabetes, reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure, decrease inflammation associated with arthritis, and help nursing women by boosting breast milk production.

Though dandelions have a diuretic effect that eliminates excess water from the body, there’s currently no solid scientific evidence to support other health benefits. If you're not allergic, dandelions are likely safe to eat. However, dandelions can interact with certain medications and cause adverse reactions. It’s best to consult your healthcare provider before taking dandelion supplements.
