Contribo is a vine plant of the aristolochiaeceae family. It grows up to 30 meters long (tall) and can grow longer when entangled in trees. The vine has a distinguishable aromatic odour. The leaves are dark green in colour with three lobes and it has a rough bark that peels off quite easily with a yellowish colour. The seeds can be seen between March and April each year.
Even though contribo's medicinal use has faded in Jamaica contribo's use is well documented in countries like French Guiana and Belize where the plant leaves are used for mosquito and snake bites, and to address liver problems and malaria.
